Golden Aniseed Cookies

Preheat the oven to 180C/350F/Gas mark 4

Sift the flour and salt together. In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar until pale. Beat in the aniseed and sour cream. Stir in the flour and mix thoroughly.

Shape the dough into 24 small balls and place them, well apart, on the baking tray. Flatten each ball with a wet fork. Bake for 15 minutes. Remove from the oven and cool for 1 minute, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. Makes 24

Variation; Try sandwiching the Cookies together with an orange buttercream, made by beating together 50g/2oz softened butter, 100g/4oz icing sugar and the grated rind of 1 orange. The orange complements the aniseed flavour.
