Preheat the oven to 180C/350F/Gas mark 4
Cream together the icing sugar, butter and vanilla. Work in the flour and salt until the dough holds together. (If the dough is dry add 1-2 tbs. milk). Shape the dough, by tablespoonful around the dates, carob chips or cherries to form a ball. Place about 1 inch apart on an ungreased baking tray. Bake for 12-15 minutes until set but not brown. Dip the tops into the glaze. Decorate with nuts, coconut or carob chips.
For the glaze, beat the ingredients until smooth.
