Preheat the oven to 180°C/350°F/Gas mark 4
Mix the brans with 1/2 cup hot water in a medium bowl. Set aside. Chop and crush the dates, and blend thoroughly with the applesauce, cinnamon, and vanilla. Sift in the flour and add the bran mixture. Blend well. Put in the sesame seeds and raisins and blend again.
Drop by tablespoonful onto a lightly oiled baking sheet, flatten slightly using your wet fingers. Bake for 20 minutes. Cool in the oven for 3 minutes and remove to wire racks to cool completely.
